4th annual Mermaid Festival, Ball and Parade

 

Friday, August 1st:

1-3 pm

Peavey Library - Sara Myrick will help you make oceanic adornments to bling-up your ball and parade attire.  FREE

7 pm

Eastport Arts Center - 7pm  Mermaid Ball!   New this year, the downstairs gallery will be transformed into an underwater wonderland with decor designed by Amy Ray.  The ball starts at 7pm; tickets to benefit the EAC programs are $25 per person, $40 per couple.  Wear your finest mermaid inspired attire and dance to music by DJ Catherine Lee. 

Saturday, August 2nd:

12- 3 pm:

Amphitheater  Kids of all ages can enjoy games including giant Jenga, "axe" throwing, ring toss and other games hosted by Playful Pines Adventures in the Amphitheater and the Downeast Institute will present their traveling touch-tank of sea creatures.  FREE

 

Water St and Overlook Park - more free interactive art-activities along Water St., make mermaid art at the Eastport Gallery, bejewel crowns at Downeast Creations, Chalk-the-Walk with Sweeties Downeast, contribute to the sea-themed community scallop net weaving, free bandana painting by the Parks & Recreation Club, glass blowing with Pete from Okie-Dokie glass and fiber arts spinning at Lunamuse with Manuela.  The Tides Institute will host art activities at their StudioWorks facility with visiting artist in residence Justin Behm and Tides Institute staff.   Be sure to pick up some limited edition "Mermaid Mustard" at Raye's Mustard in honor of National Mustard Day and Raye's 125th anniversary!

 

Continue to the Fisherman statue where the Waffle ME food truck will be serving up both sweet and savory waffle treats.  Downeast Rainbow Alliance will host a nearby booth and artist Nathan Carver will be showing their fiber mermaids and sea creatures.  Live music with Les Trois Etoiles - including drumming and dancing for all to join. 

3 pm:

Parade muster in the Port Authority Parking Lot at 3 pm; bring your classic car, wagon, scooter,  riding lawn mower, bicycle and we will help you adorn your ride in undersea style.   Or just come in your best mermaid attire and join the fun on foot.  The Pirates will make an appearance in anticipation of the 20th Pirate Festival in September.

4 pm:

The parade will begin at 4pm, head down Water St, and conclude with Surf rock with the Dramamines immediately following the parade in the Amphitheater.  

Dusk (about 8 pm):

But wait, there's more!   The festival concludes with a free moonlight movie, "The Little Mermaid" sponsored by Boatload of Books and presented by the Eastport Parks & Recreation Club  in the Amphitheater at dusk.
